About the Canonical Tag Generator

The same content reachable at multiple URLs — with and without a trailing slash, with tracking parameters, under http and https — splits your ranking signals across duplicates.

A canonical tag tells search engines which version is the original. This tool produces a clean, correctly formatted link element for any URL you give it.

How to use the Canonical Tag Generator

  1. Paste the preferred version of the URL — absolute, https, and exactly the casing and trailing-slash form you want indexed.
  2. Copy the generated <link rel="canonical"> element.
  3. Place it in <head>. Every variant of the page, including parameterised versions, should carry the same canonical pointing at the preferred URL.
  4. Confirm with Search Console's URL Inspection tool that Google's chosen canonical matches yours.
